Menahra – Middle East Harm Reduction Association

On August 31st, the International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), the Middle East and North Africa Harm Reduction Association (MENAHRA) calls to raise awareness on overdose and reduce its stigma.

MENAHRA urges governments and decision makers to adopt and include policies that help people who use drugs (PWUDs) to have access to prevention tools and kits in order to manage overdose, such as use of a range of treatment options for Opioid dependence. These treatments include psychosocial support, opioid maintenance treatments such as Methadone and Buprenorphine, and supported detoxification and treatment with opioid antagonists such a Naltrexone. MENAHRA also urges governments and decision makers to support and organize trainings on management of opioid overdose.

Under this context, MENAHRA invites you to share your experiences and testimonies concerning overdose risks through #OverDoseMENA on Facebook & Twitter. You may write your opinion/contribution by including the following hashtag “#OverDoseMENA”. This will help raise awareness, advocacy, open debates and discussions, and exchange information regarding the management and prevention of overdose.

MENAHRA has also published a “Drugs Overdose Factsheet,” hoping that this information will be useful.
