MENAHRA participating in the 58th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs

The Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) meets annually to consider and adopt a range of decisions and resolutions on international drug control. The participants to this meeting are from CSOs, stakeholders, policymakers and others.

This year the CND will take place from 9th to 17th March in Vienna, Austria. A special Segment on the United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on drugs that is planned to take place in 2016 will be held during this meeting from 9th to 12th March, while the CND proper will take place from 13th and 17th March.

The Middle East and North Africa Harm Reduction Association "MENAHRA" will take part in this meeting and will participate in many sessions and side events.

في إطار عملها للدعوة إلى اتّباع مناهج الحد من مخاطر استخدام المخدرات وفيروس نقص المناعة البشري شاركت شبكة الشرق الاوسط وشمال افريقيا للحد من مخاطر استخدام المخدرات "مينارة" في المؤتمر الذي نظمته جمعية عمل تنموي بلا حدود/ نبع بالشراكة مع جمعية الأطفال والفتوة شاتيلا وجمعية المرأة الخيرية، تحت عنوان "حقوق الانسان مسؤولية مجتمع مؤمن بها"، في 30 كانون الثاني/يناير 2015 في فندق لو ميريديان - كومودور في بيروت.

Mr. Elie Aaraj - Speech during UNODC/MENAHRA Conference

MENAHRA and UNODC organized a joint Regional Conference on Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) - Needle and Syringe Programme (NSP). The Conference took place in Casablanca, Morocco from 11-13 November 2014.

The main objectives of the Conference were to build regional capacities, advocate for OST and NSP as priorities of the comprehensive harm reduction services, and provide a forum for the national harm reduction task forces to showcase their own initiatives and achievements, discuss their challenges while networking across the region and exchanging expertise. Additionally, one of the main outcomes of this Conference was to represent expert opinions of its participants to address HIV prevention, treatment, care and support among People Who Inject Drugs.

Strengthening Civil Society and Community Engagement in the MENA

Strengthening Civil Society and Community Engagement in Global Fund Country Dialogue and Concept Note Development in the Middle East and North Africa workshop sessions continued to take place in the second day including discussion sessions highlighting on “Practical implications of the NFM in recent funding windows”, which addressed ways to continue to support participants to increase their knowledge base and understanding of key Global Fund processes, and taking away practical examples of outcomes for countries who have submitted Concept Notes to the Global Fund.
